Mr. Piet de Klerk is the Sherpa for the preparations of the 2014 Nuclear Security Summit which will be held in The Hague in March 2014.

From 2003-2007 Mr. de Klerk was Ambassador at Large for Human Rights at the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and after that (2007-2011) he was Deputy Permanent Representative of the Netherlands to the United Nations in New York. Between August 2011 and August 2013 he was the Netherlands Ambassador in Jordan.

From 1998 to 2003  he was Director of the Office of External Relations and Policy Coordination of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vienna. 

In the earlier phases of his career he was Counselor at the Netherlands Embassy in Bonn, Head of the Arms Control Section at the Ministry and First Secretary/Counselor at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations and the IAEA, in Vienna. From 1992-1998 he was a member of SAGSI, the IAEA Standing Advisory Group on Safeguards Implementation. During the year 2011-2012 he was Chairman of the Nuclear Suppliers Group.

He has an MSc, Physics (1977, cum laude) and an MSc in Mathematics from the University of Amsterdam (1978).  He also studied philosophy there.

Oleg Demidov graduated from the School of Public Administration at Moscow State University of Lomonosov in 2010. Currently, Oleg has been working on his Ph.D thesis at Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO University). In 2011-2012, he held the position of Project Coordinator at Center for Political and International Studies (CPIS) under the International Federation for Peace and Conciliation. In 2012-2016, he has served as an expert to the Commission on Information Security and Cybercrime at the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC). He is a graduate of the International Summer School of the PIR Center for global security issues. In 2012-2014, he held the position of Director of the Program International Information Security and Global Internet Governance at PIR Center.  In 2011-2014 Oleg participated in the international project “A Twenty-First Century Concert of Powers” conducted by Frankfurt Peace Research Institute (PRIF). In 2018, being a Head of the Analysis and Forecasting Department of the Tatarstan Entrepreneurship Support Fund, he collaborated with the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Tatarstan in developing projects for digital transformation of the Republic's economy. From February 2019 to February 2020, he was a Cyber Portfolio Researcher at the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR). Currently, he is an independent researcher. Since 2015, he has been working with the PIR Center as a freelance consultant. Before 2007 he was a former United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs and a former Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the USA and to the UN Office in Geneva. He is a member of the Governing Board of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). As a Sri Lankan diplomat Dhanapala served in London, Beijing, Washington D.C., New Delhi, and Geneva and he has represented Sri Lanka at a number of international conferences chairing several of them including the historic NPT Review and Extension Conference of 1995. Dhanapala is also a former Director of the UN Institute for Disarmament Research. Jayantha Dhanapala is a member of the Board of Sponsors of The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists and a governing board member of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. Dr. Dhanapala was Sri Lanka's official candidate for the post of Secretary-General of the United Nations, before withdrawing from the race on 29 September 2006. Mr. Doroshevich has been engaged in conducting research and independent expert initiatives in the field of internet technologies since 1995. In 1997 he founded and led the first Belorussian project in this area. From 1996 to 2004 he took part in establishment and launch of over a dozen of media internet projects in CIS states.

Since 2001 he has been heading the independent project e-Belarus.ORG. In 2008 in partnership with Gemius Mr. Doroshevich started to conduct regular monthly research of Belorussian internet audience. Dr. Lewis A. Dunn now is an Independent Consultant after nearly three decades as a senior project manager and analyst at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). He is devoting his time to analysis and writing on issues of reducing global nuclear risks, arms control and nuclear disarmament, and nuclear non-proliferation. As a former U.S. Ambassador for the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference, he continues to be actively engaged in NPT issues. He participates in the continuing process of semi-official U.S.-China strategic nuclear dialogues, with a focus on possible initiatives to put in place a process of U.S.-China mutual strategic reassurance and restraint. He also is a consultant to the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI), providing support to the International Partnership for Nuclear Disarmament Verification.  He has recently been invited to become a member of the United Nations Secretary General’s Advisory Board on Disarmament. From 1987 until early 2017, Dr. Dunn was employed by SAIC, including over two decades as a senior manager. Dr. Dunn is a former Assistant Director of the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency and served as Ambassador to the 1985 Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty Review Conference. Prior to joining the Reagan Administration in 1981, he was a Senior Analyst at the Hudson Institute. From 1969-1974, he taught Political Science at Kenyon College. He has a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.

As a legal advisor, he started his career in 1985 with the Ministry of Defense, negotiating international treaties on arms control and disarmament. After taking three years off for his Ph.D, he then joined in 1994 the French Embassy in Washington as economic advisor, dealing with the US defense and aerospace industry consolidation (Boeing/McDonnell Douglas, Lockkeed Martin, Northrop Grumman). In 1998, he moved to NATO headquarters (Brussels) as a political advisor to the Assistant Secretary General for Defense Support. He participated to the Partnership for Peace program with a special focus on Russia and Ukraine and to the NATO Kosovo Crisis Cell. Back to Paris in 2001, Doctor Dupré was appointed to the Strategic Affairs Department at the French Ministry of Defense where he is, today, the head of the Non Proliferation and Disarmament Bureau. He holds a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University.

Professor. Major General (Ret.), Doctor of Technical Sciences, a top military expert, General Dvorkin was one of the main authors of the Russian Strategic Nuclear Forces and Strategic Missile Forces policy documents. He participated as an expert in the preparation of the SALT II, INF, START I, and START II treaties for many years, and made a noticeable contribution to the formation of the Soviet and Russian position at the negotiations on the limitation and reduction of strategic weapons. He participated in the testing of the first Soviet nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines and the first submerged launches of ballistic missiles. He is an active member of the Russian Academy of Missile and Artillery Sciences, the Academy of Military Sciences, the Russian Engineering Academy, the International Engineering Academy, and the Academy of Cosmonautics. He is the author of more than 350 academic papers and numerous articles. His academic interests include missile dismantlement issues, combating terrorism, and nuclear safety and security. Edward Ifft has been involved in negotiating and implementing many of the key arms control agreements of the past 35 years. He has a Ph.D. in physics from Ohio State University. hile a graduate student, he was selected to spend a year at Moscow State University and the Institute for Physical Problems of the U.S.S.R Academy of Sciences under the U.S.U.S.S.R cultural exchange program. He is a graduate of the Senior Managers in Government program at Harvard University. Dr. Ifft began his government career at the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency. He then moved to the State Department, where he continued to work on strategic arms control, as well as on constraints on nuclear testing, serving as the Deputy U.S. Negotiator at the 1974 negotiations on the Threshold Test Ban Treaty in Moscow. In 1978, he accepted a detail to NASA for three years, serving as Head of the Office of International Program Policy and Executive Secretary of the U.S.U.S.S.R Space Cooperation Agreement. Upon returning to the State Department, he served as Senior Policy Advisor and then Senior State Department Representative to the START negotiations in Geneva. After that he became Deputy Director of the OnSite Inspection Agency. In 1998, he became Senior Advisor and State Department liaison to DTRA until his retirement from the Senior Executive Service in 2002. He also served as the last U.S. Commissioner for the ABM Treaty until the U.S. withdrew from the Treaty in 2002. Dr. Ifft has lectured at many universities and government laboratories and in more than 10 countries. Dr. Ifft continues to work parttime in the State Department as a Foreign Affairs Officer.
