27.02.2020

MOSCOW, FEBRUARY 27, PIR PRESS. – «The Dual Degree Master`s Program creates a positive impression and its implementation is undoubtedly worth continuing. Classes, especially on specific topics, sparked great interest among students, they actively asked questions, thus lectures turned into interactive communication from time to time. The set of topics composing separate courses harmoniously fit into the general outline of the Master`s Program», – Modern Arms Control and Disarmament course instructor, member of the Advisory Board of PIR Center Andrey Malov.

On February 6, 2020 PIR Center held a meeting with the instructors of the first semester of the Dual Degree Master`s Program WMD Nonproliferation, Nuclear Policy and Global Security, which is run jointly by The Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS), Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), and PIR Center.

The goal of the meeting was to summarize the results of both the first semester of the fourth cohort, and the previous three years of the program. The faculty and organizers of the program discussed the challenges to, the prospects for, and the further development of the Dual Degree program, as well as brainstormed recommendations on the necessary changes to the program and new formats of working with students.

Opening the meeting, Director of PIR Center and Master`s Program academic supervisor Dr. Vladimir Orlov emphasized that the program gets positive reviews, both from the organizers and partners, and from the students. The fact that 12 out of 15 instructors of core disciplines within the framework of the “nonproliferation” part of the program led by PIR Center attended the meeting serves as a confirmation of these words and demonstrates experts` interest in working with students.

Courses leading lecturers, as well as invited experts who gave specific classes during the first semester, shared their experience of interacting with students and organizers, presented their views on the challenges and prospects of the program, and provided their ideas for improving the educational process.
